Racing teams head for Canada

It's all go in Panorama ...

When the International racing teams hit the slopes in Panorama Mountain Village shortly, they are in for a treat: bucket loads of the white stuff.

Although the Canadian racing teams have been in training at the resort recently, over 200 International racers will hit the slopes shortly to whip themselves into tip-top shape for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. And they are in for a powder treat; it has been snowing heavily for the past few days. The latest reports show another 16cm and a summit depth of 70cm. The freezing level is set to drop further over the weekend, with more snow showers forecast. The resort officially opens for public skiing and boarding in three weeks time, so not long to go …

And in Sun Peaks, which is already open, it is the Austrian Men’s Team that is limbering up on Canadian snow. The racers are in the resort for their fifth year of training sessions on Tod Mountain. Walter Gradwohl, the Downhill and Super G coach for the Men’s team says the training is going extremely well heading into the Olympics. ‘Our goal is to get one medal in each discipline. And the Canadian team is strong too!’

The snow is also looking good for the continuation of the FIS racing series, with the Men’s World Cup team in action at Lake Louise next weekend (28 November). Check out the pics in Snow snippets.
