Snowball Rally anyone?

10th November 2009, by Chris Gill

Who’s up for a quick blast to the Alps next April? If the idea of putting your car through its paces around Brands Hatch, followed by a rally to the French Alps and two action-packed days on the piste sounds like fun, read on:

The Snowball Rally combines fast cars and snow sports in a thrilling four-day trip to Tignes, France. But you don’t need a Porsche to join in the fun …

Cut a dash?

The Rally consists of 30 teams of two, willing to put their cars through laps of Brands Hatch motor circuit, then plot a route to the French Alps, spend two days on the pistes in Tignes – with a slalom competition thrown in – and take on the allegedly ‘most notorious’ race circuit in Europe.

What’s more, you’re encouraged to abide by ‘The Law’ and put on your ‘Fancy Balls’ – aka wear fancy dress. There are great prizes to be won too, including a heli-ski trip.

So whose fancy idea is that then?

The Rally was the brain-child of two petrol heads, also keen skiers, whose aim get everyone raising funds for Great Ormond Street hospital. The event is in its second year and last year’s popularity means places are offered on a first come first served basis – and they only take 30 teams.

What’s the cost?

To enter the Snowball Rally it costs £400 per team of two. That entitles you to the racing, skiing, lodging, ferry crossings – but you’ll need to pay for petrol, food and equipment hire.
The event takes place between 21 and 25 April and sounds like a real hoot way to round off the season.
