Robbie Williams will play the closing concert of the ski season at Ischgl

The Austrian party ski resort of Ischgl will be deluged with Robbie Williams fans at the end of the season — because the singer and occasional skier will be playing a concert at the top of the mountain.

Some 30,000 fans are expected to flood the an open-air, high-altitude venue to listen to Robbie’s concert which will form part of his Swing Both Ways tour next year.

A massive stage will be constructed at the top of the mountain at Ischgl for the 3 May concert at 7,600ft. While fans will be able to ski or snowboard into the venue, Robbie Williams is likely to arrive by helicopter.

Fans can attend only by buying a lift pass to get to the venue, rather than by the normal method of buying a concert ticket, as for the rest of the tour.

Ischgl tourist director Andreas Steibl described the announcement as a “massive coup”, saying: “We know Robbie will put on a brilliant show”.

Robbie is the latest in a huge line-up of stars that have performed at the Tirolean ski resort in the past 20 years, including Elton John, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, Kylie Minogue, The Killers and Deep Purple.

Mr Steibl added: “We are delighted that Robbie has agreed to include our resort as part of his European tour – he is at the peak of his popularity so it is fitting that he should play a concert on a mountain peak. We know he will put on a brilliant show.”

This season also celebrates 50 years since the first cable car opened in Ischgl.
