Saas lifts open longer

High on the Allalin
You can start the season in Saas Fee a little earlier this year, with two non-glacier lifts opening a forthnight early.
The Swiss resort has announced plans to open the Spielboden and Längfluh gondola and cable car from 4 December. They will also remain open past Easter, closing on 28 April.
This should ensure a little more skiing in that part of the ski area: the two lifts serve red and black runs. They also provide a longer way to the glacier slopes in winter – above them runs a long draglift. As well as extending the season, the lifts will also operate for half an hour longer in late winter – so more time out on the slopes before tea.
If you are heading to the resort next month, for a spot of late autumn glacier snow, the popular ski and board tests have begun. You can test all the latest kit on the Allalin slopes, with holiday packages starting at 217 euros in a standard hotel.
And getting to the resort by train is improving for long-distance travellers (prepared to go via Hamburg!): there are new snow train services to Brig courtesy of schnee-express.com. These five ‘special’ trains will run between January and March.
