Save on ski kit by buying in Britain

Ski and snowboard gear in the UK is up to 25 per cent cheaper than Europe
Buying your ski and snowboard gear in the UK this winter will be up to 25 per cent cheaper than buying in Europe says the Snowsport Industries of Great Britain (SIGB), which has compared prices at home and abroad.
With the weak pound and prices already fixed before Brexit, top names within the ski industry say that for the first time in many years, UK snowsports and outdoor shops can offer prices cheaper than their European counterparts, meaning Brits can save money on all their winter essentials by buying before they go abroad.
SIGB found that prices of well-known pieces of kit and equipment are currently consistently cheaper in the UK compared to prices in European shops (based on exchange rate £1/ 1.12€) — for example a pair of Atomic Vantage 90 CTI skis with binding have a suggested retail price of £550 in the UK and £737.81 in mainland Europe, representing a saving of £187.81 or 25 per cent, to Brits. Similarly, a Burton Custom Snowboard is suggested to retail at £445 in the UK and £534 abroad, some £89 or 17 per cent more expensive. Even a Salomon Icon 2 Custom Air Helmet is cheaper, costing £123.71 in Europe as opposed to £100 in the UK (a saving of 19 per cent).
Steve Wells, head ski buyer at Ellis Brigham explained: “We placed our orders and fixed our prices before Brexit, meaning that we’re now significantly cheaper than any of the European competition, and North America. Not only that, but the UK snowsports industry has had some tough years meaning only the best companies remain, so skiers and snowboarders can be sure they’re buying from dedicated specialists who supply the best information and products, from the keenest staff, all backed up with easy to access warranties.”
SIGB warned that the cost of renting skis and snowboards in resort is also escalating due to the weak pound.
Nick Warne, retail director at independent retailer Snowtrax added: “There has never been a better time to buy in the UK and consumers are really starting to take note of the savings they are making on snowsport kit and are starting to realise that buying over hiring is in the long-term, a better option. These savings coupled with the in-depth knowledge available from specialist retailers like ourselves means there are plenty of reasons to shop locally.”
