Schools are being urged to sign up to the first ever running of the National Schools Snowsport Week, which runs 22-29 April on artificial slopes across England.
The new initiative from Snowsport England is sponsored by Visit Andorra as well as school tour operator Equity, which offers affordable skiing to schools, to develop confidence in young people.
Some 21 indoor and artificial slopes across the country are taking part in the week that will offer a range of activities to schools and pupils including taster ski and snowboard sessions, alternative snow activities such as tobogganing and tubing, as well as freestyle or racing taster sessions at some slopes.
The week is open to any school keen to get involved, as well as pupils of any age. Whole classes, year groups or even just a handful of students can get involved.
Graham Bell, five-time Olympian and presenter of BBC’s Ski Sunday is supporting National Schools Snowsports Week.
“There is nothing better than standing on a ski slope, the adrenalin rushing through your body as you start your descent — whether that is in the Alps or on an artificial ski slope,” he said.
“I wish every child could have the chance to give snowsports a go and enjoy that feeling, which is why National Schools Snowsports Week is such a great idea. Not only will children from a range of backgrounds get to give skiing or snowboarding a go, at some slopes there are ski racing taster sessions, so we might even find our next Winter Olympic Champion!”
