Following installation of its first eight-seat chair last season, Schladming in Austria will add another for next winter.

The new lift is part of a major investment project for the resort, ahead of staging the World Championships in 2013. Last winter, an eight-pack replaced a tricky draglift on the upper mountain at Planai – the central peak in the Schaldming range.

For 2010/11, the resort has ordered a second chair to be built and installed on Planai; this time it will improve the connection to Hauser Kaibling.

The Märchenwiese chairlift, with extra-comfy heated seating and weather-protection hoods, will replace the old draglifts on the return from Hauser Kaibling to Planai. The lift is due to open in time for the new winter season.

Meanwhile, at resort level they are developing a swanky new valley station called ‘Planet Planai’. This very modern new base building will bring many of the skier services under one roof, such as ticket offices, rental shop and ski school. The development will also allow expansion of the parking away from the busy resort centre.
