September snow - a little refreshment

The first signs of winter have been felt in the Alps this week ...
It’s only small, but at last the glacier resorts have reported some fresh snowfall: between 10-20cm have fallen across parts of Austria and Italy. There’s some way to go to yet though to re-stock snow bases sufficiently, but at least it looks like things are cooling down a bit after the summer heat wave.
In Austria, the Hintertux, Molltal and Pitztal glaciers are open. Sadly, cover is rather thin and the open slopes limited. Kaprun’s Kitzsteinhorn glacier received 20cm fresh snow, but it too needs more before it can reopen for snow sports. Solden should have been the first to reopen last week, but needs more snow too.
Ski areas already open are due to be joined by others in the next few weeks: Tignes is keeping fingers crossed for a planned 28 September opening - glacier only, of course.
