New measurements for Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier Vallée now measures its ski area in hectares
Where to Ski and Snowboard promotion
Serre Chevalier Vallée in the French Alps has drastically changed the way it measures its ski area.
Until this season, the resort used to claim it had 250km of pistes, but following the “piste-gate” debate over recent years (read an update from Editor Gill here), the company that operates the resort, SCV-Domaine Skiable, has had the area measured as a whole, in the same way that international resorts measure their areas.
Now, Serre Chevalier Vallée says it has a “marked ski area spanning 410 hectares within a total area of 3901 hectares”. There are 81 pistes and 62 ski lifts at an altitude between 1200 and 2800 metres that are for beginners through to expert skiers.
The marked area, measured and validated by the independent body KALIBLUE, includes the downhill runs and off-piste zones, as well as the uphill tracks for surface lifts and excludes Serre Chevalier Vallée’s ArvaPark and sledge areas. The total surface area also includes the sectors that can be accessed from the top of ski lifts where it is possible to ski back down to the resort. For more details on how the resort has been measured, visit serre-chevalier.com/en/ski-area-total-surface.
Serre Chevalier Vallée is the largest in France unconnected to other resorts. It encompasses three typical Alpine villages (Le Monétier les Bains, Villeneuve-La Salle, Chantemerle-Saint Chaffrey), 13 hamlets and Briançon - a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This winter, Serre Chevalier Vallée is offering skiing and snowboarding for as little as €218* per person, per week. This special price includes self-catering accommodation (based on four people sharing) and a six-day ski pass for everyone.
Getting to Serre Chevalier Vallée is easy, about 8 hours by car from Calais; by rail direct to Briançon; and a choice of airports: Turin, Grenoble and Lyon, serve the resort within easy transfer time.
