This winter, the Swiss ski resort of Arosa is linking its ski area with nearby Lenzerheide. The combined ski area will now total around 225km of pistes and 42 lifts.

A new 1,694m cable car, capable of carrying 150 skiers and snowboarders per car, will connect the Hörnli of Arosa with the Urdenfürggli in Lenzerheide. In Lenzerheide, two new six-man chair lifts will be built from Heimberg to Motta and from Motta to Urdenfürggli, where you can take the new cablecar to Arosa.

According to Yvonne Wüthrich from the Arosa tourist board, there will be some reorganisation of the pistes in Lenzerheide, but a piste map has not yet been drawn up for the 2013/2014 winter.

A new restaurant is being built at the middle station of the Rothorn gondola in Lenzerheide, to be called Scharmoin.

“A real innovation is that the new ski ticket for Arosa-Lenzerheide will also cover public transport between the two destinations,” added Mrs Wüthrich.

“That means, if you stay in one destination enjoying the après-ski a little longer than you intended to, and the connecting tramway is closed, you can take the train or postal bus to get back to your home destination.”

Work began in April on the project, which is costing around CHF20 million (£14m). The new lift pass for the two areas will cost CHF69 (around £48) for one day, or CHF332 (£232) for six days.
