Visit Cervinia in Italy between 29 April and 6 May and take advantage of a free lift pass for the duration of your stay.

The resort, sharing slopes with Zermatt in Switzerland, will be issuing free passes for the last week of the season. The deal applies to stays of four nights or more, and will include Zermatt (normally you pay a supplement to ski the whole area) – which should have the extensive glacier runs open, if not a bit more.

You need to book a package with one of the participating hotels, but at this time of the year independent travel is what you are likely to be doing anyway. Most hotels involved are 3- or 4-star properties, such as the Europa or the Mignon – both fairly convenient for the town and nursery slopes. Apartments are also available on the deal: the 4-star Saint-Hubertus Resort.

Cervinia is a good high altitude choice for late spring too, with the village at 2050m and slopes rising to the glacier at over 3400m. The lift pass normally gives access to over 300km of slopes and is one of the most expensive area passes in the Alps.

Snow conditions are fine at the moment, with 20-40cm of fresh snow and settled base depths of 60/290cm.
