Flying on skis took on a new meaning at the weekend, when the men’s ski jump world record was broken twice in two days.

The previous world record, for a jump of 246.5m was set in 2011 by Norway’s Johan Remen Evensen. At a World Cup event in Vikersund, Norway, Slovenian skier Peter Prevc became the first ever many to jump 250m on Saturday.

His victory was short lived, however, when only 24 hours later an incredible 251.5m by Anders Fannemel set another world record.

Fannamel said: “I thought it would not be possible to jump longer than 250m [but] the conditions were perfect for long flights and I made the best jump of my life.”

But despite his incredible leap, Fannemel only jumped 202m in the final round, and came in 42.7 points behind the winner. Peter Prevc finished in 16th place after his final jump of 110m.
