Wowing visitors: the Ice Q restaurant in Sölden is completely transparent
A new attraction opens in Chamonix this winter — the Skywalk, a glazed structure at the top of the Aiguille du Midi (3,842m).
The Skywalk is made entirely of glass, and will have a 1,000m drop below it, giving visitors the feeling of “stepping into the void”.
Due to open on 21 December, the design has taken years of planning and will be visible later this autumn after the annual closure of the Aigulle du Midi on 4 November.
The Skywalk is not the only new glazed structure to arrive in the Alps this winter. In Sölden, a new glass mountain restaurant will open in December at the top of the
Gaislachkogel at 3048m.
The entire building housing the high-end restaurant Ice Q is transparent, to give visitors the impression they are sitting in the Ӧtztal mountains, and a suspension bridge links the roof terrace of the restaurant to the Gaislachkogel mountain peak.
