Skiers and boarders enjoy fantastic conditions in Breckenridge last weekend

The snow continues to fall around Europe and North America, clogging up the roads and our social media feeds (anyone else’s twitter and facebook feeds going mad?).

After a delayed start in Colorado, Breckenridge opened last weekend after receiving 13 inches of new snow in 24 hours, and 53 inches of snow in seven days. “We haven’t seen an opening weekend like this in quite some time,” the resort announced on its facebook page.

Canada’s number one ski resort, Whistler, is to open this weekend

And this weekend, Whistler in BC, Canada, is opening up five days ahead of schedule following good natural snowfall at higher elevations and a streak of below average temperatures, providing prime conditions for snowmaking.

“Our snowmaking team has been working hard to take advantage of this early season cold snap in Whistler and has converted over 60 million gallons of water into snow over the past few weeks,” said Doug MacFarlane, Director of Mountain Operations at Whistler Blackcomb.

Five lifts will open on Saturday, including the Whistler Village Gondola and its bran new cabins, starting at 8.30am.

This morning in La Clusaz: the French ski resort opens this weekend

In Europe, Val Thorens will open this weekend, along with Les Angles in the Pyrénées and La Clusaz near Lake Annecy.
