Les 2 Alps is reporting "outstanding snow coverage" for this weekend's opening

More ski resorts across Europe and the US are opening this weekend — and not before time. This week’s snow report details “excellent” snow conditions across the Alps

Yesterday, the Austrian party resort of Ischgl opened 131 slopes — the most in the Alps at present. Méribel, Courchevel, Val d’Isère and Les Deux-Alps are opening in France tomorrow.

In Les 2 Alps, there is “outstanding snow coverage” for the opening weekend, with 1.50 m of snow at 3,000m and 40cm in the resort. Some 15 lifts will open giving access to 33 slopes, with skiers able to ski from 3,400m down to the resort.

In the French Pyrenees, Peyragudes, Piau Engaly, Grand-Tourmalet, Luz-Ardiden and Cauterets are opening tomorrow.

In Italy, Courmayeur and Livigno open their lifts, and in Switzerland, Verbier opens its lifts full time, a week in advance of its opening party next Saturday, 7 December.

With Thanksgiving yesterday, resorts across the US opened their lifts, including Sun Valley in Idaho, Jackson Hole in Wyoming and Squaw Valley in California. The Lake Tahoe resorts, including Heavenly, opened last weekend.

We’ll be on the snow soon — our first blog will be posted from Verbier’s opening session next weekend!
