Ski Total snaps up Ischgl chalet

Lots of great intermediate terrain, a long season and lively apres-ski scene ...
Catered chalet specialist Ski Total has announced a fabulous addition to its winter 2010/11 collection: Ischgl in Austria. And with it, a brand new 4-star chalet hotel.
There are few British tour operators to the Paznaun valley, and most operate through hotels or guest houses; there are few catered chalet options. Acquiring suitable package holiday accommodation in Ischgl has always been difficult. So, Ski Total’s news is likely to prove very popular among skiers and boarders wishing to explore this much underrated resort and valley. What’s more, the company has secured a brand new place that gives you the trappings of a modern hotel, with premium catered chalet board.
Chalet hotel Abendrot is being built this summer to offer quality lodging for over fifty Ski Total guests. The chalet is a short walk from Ischgl’s legendary nightlife and plentiful restaurants (there is a broad choice to suit most tastes), and between two of the resort’s access gondolas. You can ski most of the way back on Run 1, which descends to village level.
Abendrot could make a good choice for a group of friends or a family. As well as comfortable en-suite rooms, facilities include the almost obligatory wellness centre: spa, sauna and hot tub; plus WiFi internet. There will also be a cosy lounge and bar area. And there’s a lift to all floors, so you won’t have to drag your luggage up flights of stairs.
A key selling point of a chalet hotel are the costs, which are favourable compared with Ischgl’s generally pricey offerings. A week in the Abendrot starts from £719 in January 2011, but that does include full breakfasts, five-course dinners and teatime cakes.
Ischgl’s ski area covers over 200km varied slopes, shared with Samnaun in Switzerland, and enjoying an impressively long season – starting and ending with the famed Top-of-the-Mountain concerts. There are also good bus links with the two contrasting, peaceful resorts in the same valley: Galtur and Kappl. You can ski both of these on the Flexi-Pass lift ticket.
Ski Total have just released their new winter brochure, which includes properties in over 15 major Alpine resorts. There are various ‘crunch buster’ deals for early bookings, such as £150 discounts and free rental gear and group places. Chalet hotel Abendrot is expecting to welcome its first guests from 12 December 2010.
