EasyJet is expected to announce a reduction its losses over the winter thanks to the growing popularity of ski holidays this season.

Winter is traditionally a time when the budget airline makes a loss, but over the last three months of 2012, revenues rose 9.3per cent to £833million – thanks to a strong start to the ski season. The recent good snow conditions are expected to have improved easyJet’s fortunes even further.

City analysts are predicting the budget airline will announce losses of between £50-75m, down from £112m at the same stage last year, when its quarterly revenues are announced this month.

In December, easyJet introduced a new route from Southend airport to Geneva, branding its marketing campaign “Southend on Ski”. The flights departed three times a week — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — all season, with the last outward-bound flight on Sunday 14 April.
