Skiers flock to summer glacier

Les Deux Alpes opened for summer skiing on Saturday, 22 June
The summer season has begun in Les Deux Alpes, France, where the glacier opened last Saturday, 22 June.
More than 3,000 skiers and snowboarders headed to the French ski resort to enjoy “excellent” conditions from 2,600m to 3,600m on Europe’s largest skiable glacier.
There are 17 lifts open in Les Deux Alpes, and a reported upper snow depth of 245cm.
In Austria, the Stubai Glacier is also reporting excellent conditions – with 20cm of fresh snow falling yesterday to give fantastic piste skiing on the glacier, which has an upper snow depth of 170cm.
Fresh snow also fell in Kaprun yesterday, an additional 15cm gives the ski resort 260cm on the upper slopes of the glacier where three lifts are open.
Elsewhere in France, the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes will open on 6 July for a month.
