Obergurgl and Hochgurgl open for the ski season on Thursday

The Austrian ski resorts of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl open their lifts in two days, on Thursday 12 November.

As a warm-up for the season, they’ve just released this footage of skiers “photobombing” their webcams, which stream live to 4000 hotel rooms in the resort and on its website (click here to see the conditions right now).

“They are always recording so you can check out the snow conditions. But last season we found some funny stuff going on. Here are some of our favourites,” says a little message on their You Tube channel.

This season the Kirchenkar draglift has been replaced in Hochgurgl, and replaced by a 10-person gondola, with the plan to add a second stage in 2016/17 to take skiers higher. At the base of the new gondola (called Top Mountain Cross Point), there is a new table-service restaurant and in 2016 a motorbike museum will open.
