Skiers urged to take extra Euros away

Skiers in the resort of Les Arcs say cash has run out in some ATMs
Skiers arriving in Tarantaise resorts this weekend might be wise to take some extra Euros with them after a strike by staff who supply cash to ATMs in the French mountains.
WTSS has received reports that cash machines in some ski resorts in the Savoie are running short of Euros since a strike by employees of Loomis, based in Chambéry, began on Christmas Eve. The staff are demanding an extra €2,000 to deal with specific working conditions in mountain areas — complaining about things such as insufficient clothing to cope with the cold and snow of the mountains.
French media report 416 Crédit Agricole ATMs are among those affected in ski resorts in areas including Paradiski and the Three Valleys.
WTSS reader and contributor Matthew Hardy is currently on holiday in Les Arcs. He told us: “Cash has run out in machines. Shopkeepers are upset here in Vallandry because they think it’s hurt trade over the crucial Christmas-New Year period, and I’ve seen local people frustrated at the cashpoints too.”
He added: “Some people say that cash machines in the valley towns are still working and you can still use credit or debit cards to pay for many purchases.”
