Olympic snowboarder Shaun White has bought a stake in Mammoth Resorts, which owns a clutch of ski areas in California.

The 29-year-old San Diego snowboarder won Gold at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics and holds the record for the most X-Games medals.

While details of the deal have not been disclosed, Shaun White is understood to have invested a seven-figure sum into Mammoth Resorts, which owns Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Snow Summit, Bear Mountain and June Mountain.

The announcement yesterday said White would have “an immediate focus on Big Bear Mountain Resorts” but that “presence will be felt everywhere from the boardroom to the halfpipe”.

“It’s amazing that I’m now an owner of the mountain where I grew up riding,” said White. “As an owner I’ll be able to make changes and shape the future of the mountain and how people enjoy it—whether they’re beginners or professionals.”

In the coming months, Mammoth Resorts and White are expected to announce several updates including Shaun’s vision for new resort offerings, events and terrain park enhancements.
