Winter is coming: snow last Friday in French ski resort Val Thorens

We might have been enjoying the Great British Indian summer last week, but in the mountains it has been snowing.

Val Thorens sent us this picture over the weekend of their first snowfall. The French ski resort is the highest in Europe, at 2,300m, and will open on 21 November.

If the sight of snow, and of the launch of Where to Ski and Snowboard 2016, has you yearning to get sliding, Snowsport England is launching “30 Days of Snowsport” next week.

A series of events will be held from Sunday, 26 September to Sunday 25 October aimed at revving existing skiers and snowboarders up for the season and getting new people involved in the UK snowsports scene.

There will be open days, activities and entertainment, days featuring GB skiers and snowboarders, elite level competitions and freestyle nights. Many of the events will offer Go Ski Go Board taster sessions for those who have never tried skiing or snowboarding.

The events kick off next Sunday in Southampton, Chill Factore and Snozone in Milton Keynes and Castleford.
