Snowsports fiesta starts on Saturday

This Saturday ski slopes across England will offer free or discounted ski and snowboard sessions as part of a ‘30 Days of Snowsport’ initiative aimed at getting more people on into winter sports.
At least 70 free or discounted ski and snowboard sessions will take place at 19 facilities across England during the month-long initiative that begins this Saturday (24 September) and finishes on Sunday 23 October.
Part of Snowsport England’s GO SKI GO BOARD campaign, 30 Days of Snowsport is supported by Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports, and aims to not only give people new to skiing and snowboarding a taste of what they are missing but also provide an opportunity for everyone to hit the slopes and get excited about the upcoming winter season.
As well as the taster sessions for people looking to take up a new sport, there are 25 different events ranging from open days to races, competitions and freestyle events — all fun and family friendly activities open to all ages. For people who already ski or snowboard, there will be a chance to get the ski legs back or have a go at something different – whether that be freestyle, ski racing, rollerskiing or another discipline.
Sunderland Sports Complex is running taster sessions on Sunday (25 September) as well as 10 and 16 October. The centre’s general manager, Dean Randall, said: “This is a great way to help raise the profile of our facilities in Sunderland and get members of the community engaged in snowsport. It’s an exciting time for us with the refurbishment just round the corner so hopefully this will be a chance for people to see how great a facility we have and hopefully getting more people trying skiing and snowboarding.”
