Skiing and snowboarding is growing in popularity in England, according to the latest research.

A report by Snowsport England, released at the end of June, shows that the number of people using artificial and indoor snow slopes in England grew by 23.1% between 2011 and 2014.

The research project, called ‘SlopeTracker’, used data from eleven different artificial and indoor snow slopes around England. It also reported that more than 65% of people said they would be ‘extremely likely’ to continue using the slope or centre and that 53% of people would be likely to recommend the slope / centre to a friend.

SlopeTracker also showed a 10% growth in participation from the first quarter of 2013 to the same period in 2014 — perhaps a knock-on effect from the Sochi Winter Olympics. In February Where to Ski and Snowboard reported a spike in participation at snowsports centres up and down the country.

“The next report will be available in December and we hope will show the impact of Sochi 2014 and the buzz it created around the country,” said Tim Fawke, chief executive of Snowsport England.

“We can only be encouraged by the findings of the SlopeTracker report and hope that more slopes will be able to come on board and share data to make the report even more valuable, and make it an important tool for all our slopes and centres. “

The SlopeTracker report was compiled by Spike Marketing.
