Spain builds Europe’s longest snowpark

The Sulayr snowpark will have 70 features, of which 46 taken be taken in a row
The ski resort of Sierra Nevada in Spain is building nine new features to its huge Sulayr snowpark, which it claims will give the park the longest line in Europe.
When the season opens on 30 November, Sulayr will have 70 features — of which 46 can be taken in a row. A new, wider section suitable for children is being created in the 2.5km park that in March hosted the FIS Ski and Snowboard World Cup Super-finals.
The resort says it wants children and their parents to “begin to freestyle” in the new widened “Kidspark” which will add to Sulayr’s four “medium level” sections, Progression Park and professional lines.
Sierra Nevada has designed the park, accessed via the Monachil chair lift, to “bring about a new level of learning from the previous one”.
“Snowboarders will be able to do their first jumps and tricks to the point of progression to the World Cup at a professional level,” said the designers.
The park will be used for some of the events for the 2015 Winter Universiade of Granada, a biennial event for student athletes.
