The Spanish ski resort of Baqueira Beret has added 21 new pistes to its ski area this winter, in celebration of its 50th anniversary.  The groomed runs offer an extra 26km to its terrain, now totalling 153km, with 99 pistes and three itineraries.

Baqueira Beret is Spain’s best-known resort, and on 6 December 2014 celebrated the 50th anniversary of its first day in operation, though the festivities are continuing throughout this season.

The ski resort has also installed three new lifts this season, a chair and two buttons. The new Jesus Serra four-seater chair replaces the Vista Beret, starting at Orri (1,847m) and arriving at 2,160m with a capacity of 2,400 people per hour.

One new button Saumet begins at the middle of Vista Beret takes skiers to 2,384m altitude, giving access to four new pistes — a red, Saumet, and the three black Craba, Sanglier and Orri de Tredòs that go through the Baciver valley to Orri. The Beret area has been improved further with two new blues, Ta Beret 3 and Ta Beret 4, that run from the top of Jesus Serra down to the base of Beret.

The second new button lift, Stadium, runs parallel to the Dera Reina chairlift and although open to all skiers has been designed specifically for skiers training at Beret’s Stadium.

The La Passarells off-piste run has now been turned into a piste, and in the Peulla area the itinerary Gerber is now a black — formerly another itinerary.
