Thinking about a ski trip to the US or Canada before the end of the season? New research has shown that long-haul flights are cheaper if booked on a Tuesday and that short-haul flights are best booked on a Wednesday.

The research, by travel website Opodo.co.uk, found that the best time to buy cheap flights is six weeks ahead of departure — you can save nearly 50 per cent on the average airfare when you book 42 days in advance. And with about six weeks left of the 2017/18 ski season, now’s the time to buy!

By analysing flight prices from the UK to all destinations between November 2016 and October 2017, Opodo.co.uk also found that long-haul flights are best booked in September, and that January is the cheapest month to book short-haul flights.

The researchers found that although six weeks in advance is the perfect “sweet spot” for getting flight deals, if you leave it until seven days before you intend to travel, prices spike dramatically — not exactly news to seasoned travelers, but useful to know.

So if you’re planning to ski in the US before the end of the season, book today, and if you want to ski in Europe during April — often the best time with fresh powder, uncrowded pistes and long sunny days — then get booking tomorrow!

As always, check our BARGAINS page for extra-special deals, some of which include flights, some of which don’t.
