A ski school in Val Thorens has launched great-value "learn to hike" packages

Ski schools in the French resort of Val Thorens are offering a host of new and good-value learning experiences on the mountain for both experienced and beginners alike.

A new ski school in the resort this year, L’Office de la Montagne, is taking advantage of the growing craze for ski touring and running “My 1st real hike” and “Jogging on skis” experiences.

“My 1st real hike” is a half-day hike on skis or split snowboards, similar to a snowshoe hike, to untouched off-piste skiing. The trip is designed for groups of between three and six people, from 1-5pm for adults and children over nine years old and costs just €60pp. More information from office-montagne.com

The school is also running fitness ski touring “jogging on skis”, which take place before the lifts open and consisting of a steep climb up and ski down over a groomed run.

Another school, Ski Cool, is offering “ski therapy” for adult beginners aimed at reducing the stress out of learning to ski by incorporating breathing exercises. The course, which ends with a daily stretching session, runs for six days and costs €189. More information from ski-cool.com
