Cortina d'Ampezzo has extended its ski season by three weeks — to 1 May

Cortina d’Ampezzo, in the Italian Dolomites, is the first European ski resort to announce it is extending its season. Excellent snow conditions on the slopes, which range from 1,225m to 2,930m, means an extra three weeks’ skiing have been added to the season which now closes on 1 May.

“This is a superb opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy their favourite winter sport in the spectacular Dolomites throughout the months of March and April,” said Mairanne Moretti from Cortina Turismo.

“Our season opened two weeks early due to huge dumps of snow and at the time we said it was a good sign for the winter ahead, and how right we were!”

Various areas in Cortina will close during April — starting with Lagazuoi on 6 April, Averau, Cinque Torri, Ra Valles and Cristallo on 21 April finishing with the shady, partly wooded area of Faloria on 1 May.

Elsewhere in the Alps, Les Deux-Alpes will remain open until 26 April, Ischgl closes on 3 may and with 99% of slopes about 2,000m, Val Thorens also closes late — on 11 May.

Last week, Breckenridge announced it would close a week later than originally planned, on 27 April.
