The first Winter X-Games series to hit Europe starts on 10 March, in Tignes.

ESPN’s Winter X-Games brings together the world’s best freestyle riders in skiing and boarding. The US is its regular venue, notably Aspen, but for the first time the series will take place in France between 10th and 12th March.

Hot on the heels of the Olympics, more than 150 athletes will head for Tignes for three days of non-stop competition in Slopestyle and SuperPipe events. There will be eight different competitions and a snowmobile demonstration.

How will this affect the resort in general?

Most of the action will focus on Tignes Val Claret, where the spectator area and X Games Tower are being erected. Many of the terrain park features will be closed off to recreational users – the half-pipe for instance will be shaped to super-pipe proportions. The Double M piste beside the Lanches chairlift will be home to the Slopestyle jumps. So, expect a few difficulties getting around the pistes in this area.
