Global navigation and mapping experts TomTom have launched a new outdoors GPS watch specifically designed for the mountain.

The TomTom Adventurer GPS Outdoor Watch just does about everything you could want from something you can put on your wrist — from tracking your pulse, to finding new routes for skiing, hiking, biking or running, as well as playing you music and keep track of your tracks all day long.

When used in conjunction with TomTom’s MySports mobile app you can plan and upload a trail, add a soundtrack of more than 500 songs, see the maximum speed, descent and maximum gradient of your last ski or snowboarding run, get accurate, real-time information on the go including altitude, speed, pace, calories burned and total scent. It also has a built-in heart rate monitor that tracks your pulse without the need for a chest strap. In hiking mode it runs something called “breadcrumb mode” that allows you to track back where you’ve been and not get lost.

The TomTom Adventurer GPS Outdoor Watch is water resistant to 40m so can be used while swimming and shallow diving, and you can set custom work-rest sessions with its interval training mode. The battery will keep going for more than 10 hours on all sports modes, and 20 hours in hiking mode — though if you’re running the GPS, heart-rate monitor and listening to music the battery will go for only five hours.

Sounds exhausting before we’ve even started — but when you’ve had enough the watch will also track your sleep, to ensure you’re getting enough rest.

The watch retails at £269.99 for more information visit tomtom.com
