Looking ahead to next season …
We’ve been informed by Vail Resorts that there are plans for a new fast chair to be built on Vail Mountain for next winter.
In a recent meeting to discuss financial investment in Vail for 2010/11, the CEO for the resort Rob Katz announced plans to install a fast quad to serve the Sun Up and Sun Down bowls.
The lift will replace the remaining slow chair on the Back Bowls side of the ski area, which currently runs from the valley to Patrol Headquarters; Sun Up and Sun Down bowls straddle either side of the lift and offer decent black-classified terrain. The slickest way to reach the area is from the mid-Vail point above Vail Village, on the front side of the mountain. If all goes to plan, the new lift is expected to be in place for next season.
Vail Resorts also manages Heavenly in California, where lots of investment in the mountain and resort infrastructure has been taking place. The next major development is likely to be a new restaurant at the top of the gondola.
