The original upper station of the Solaise lift (France’s oldest cable car station) is currently being transformed into a 34-room hotel known as Le Refuge de Solaise.

The hotel which will be at an altitude of 2551m will also host three luxury apartments that sleep 16 and a 14 bed dormitory. Residents will have the use of a spa, 25m swimming pool, children’s play area, cocktail bar, seminar room and will be dining in a 300-seat gourmet restaurant. A unique feature of the hotel will be its 360-degree mountain views across the peaks of the Haute Tarentaise and beyond from panoramic windows.

Built in traditional stone, wood and slate in keeping with its mountain setting, the hotel is a partnership between local restaurateur Jean-Claude Borel and architect Jean-Charles Covarel. Access in winter is only by the Solaise gondola or on skis and for the present guests will need to arrive and depart during lift opening hours, however snowmobiles and tracked vehicles will assist passengers and carry luggage to the front door of the hotel from the Solaise lift.
