Val Thorens, one of the highest ski resorts in Europe, now has a new accolade: it has the highest zip wire in Europe, too.

The highly anticipated ride, which costs €50 a pop (about £42), opened on Monday, 17 February. The 1,300m long zip line stands at more than 3,000m above Val Thorens’ glacier — allowing “zippers” (if that’s the right phrase!) to fly through the air at speeds of more than 100kph.

The wire runs from the top of the Bouchet chairlift at Orelle (3,230m) to the top of the Funitel de Thorens (3,000m) — and makes a nice addition to the resort’s toboggan run (the longest in france), ice driving and karting.

Late last year, Val Thorens was voted the best ski resort in the world — clearly resort chiefs are not resting on their laurels.
