Two of Switzerland’s most popular resorts are set to become more affordable this winter, with the opening of new accommodation.

In the glacial resort Saas-Fee, the world’s first youth hostel to have its own private spa has opened. The five-storey, 168-bed aptly-named wellnessHostel4000 sits at 1,900m and features a Finnish sauna, bio-soft sauna, herbal steam bath, whirlpool, footbath, navel stone, hydromassage showers, relaxation room, 25-metre indoor pool and a gym. It even serves free teas!

The hostel is eco-friendly, being built out of timber and using a solar-power heating system. Six-bed dorms for CHF62pp (£40) per night and private doubles from CHF159 (£105). Visit Wellnesshostel4000.ch

In Verbier, the Hotel Montpellier has re-opened as “the most luxurious three-star” hotel in the resort, following its purchase by Marcus Bratter, owner of Cordée des Alpes and Hotel NevaÏ.

This former Inghams 50-room property — just five minutes from the centre of Verbier — has been entirely refurbished, and offers indoor parking, an on-site ski shop and swimming pool, with prices starting from £90 per night. Visit montpelierverbier.ch.
