The Swiss ski resort of Verbier will open tomorrow, Friday 2 November. Last weekend the Alps was subjected to a weekend of wild, wintry weather and it snowed hard in many areas — including over some of the Valais region in Switzerland where the slopes of Verbier received more than 60cm of fresh snow. Tickets will cost CHF42 (around £32) and details of which pistes and lifts are opened are detailed below.

That, combined with the help of some artificial snow cover, means that Téléverbier, the lift company in resort, is able to open the Lac des Vaux piste for this coming weekend under it describes as “excellent conditions”.

Verbier says it plans to open the Attelas-Ruinettes sector as soon as the weather allows and when the resort’s snow machines have created the necessary cover. It will then open every weekend until its planned grand opening on Sunday 8 December, with the Pères Fouettards celebration — where anyone dressed up as Father Christmas will be able to buy a lift ticket for just CHF5, money that will go to a local charity.

From Friday (2 November) until Sunday (4 November), the following ski lifts and pistes will be open in Verbier:

• Le Châble – Verbier cable car from 08:40 to 17:00 (ski area access)

• Verbier – Les Ruinettes cable car from 08:45 to 16:15 (ski area access, pistes closed)

• Funispace from 08:55 to 16:15 (ski area access, pistes closed)

• Lac des Vaux 1 ski lift and the Lac des Vaux ski slope from 09:05 to 16:15
