Where is the snow lying deepest so far this winter? Snow-Forecast.com has compiled a handy list to tell us skiers and snowboarders where the biggest falls have been — but remember that deep snow doesn’t mean brilliantly skiable conditions.

The nine resorts named by Snow-Forecast.com as reporting more than 4.5metres (15 feet) on their upper slopes are dominated (unsurprisingly) by Austrian resorts — though there are a few Swiss ski resorts in the top few, with Andermatt taking the crown.

Top nine snowiest ski resorts by 30 January 2019

1. Andermatt, Switzerland — six metres or 20 feet on its upper slopes
2. Engelberg, Switzerlad — 5.2 metres or 17.3 feet on its upper slopes
3. St Anton, Austria — 5.05 metres or 16.9 feet on its upper slopes
4. Kaunertaler Glacier, Ausria — 4.9 metres or 16.3 feet on its upper slopes
5. Soda Springs, California — 4.62 metres or 15.4 feet on its upper slopes
6. Hochkar, Austria — 4.6 metres or 15.3 feet on its upper slopes
7. Dachstein Glacier, Austria — 4.6 metres or 15.3 feet on its upper slopes
8. Pitztal Glacier, Austria — 4.5 metres or 15 feet on its upper slopes

“Two more Austrian areas, including a third glacier, make up the list of nine over 4.5 metres (15 feet) up top, giving the country six of the nine deepest upper slope base depths in the world as we enter February,” says ‘Snow Hunter’ who compiled the list for Snow-Forecast.com

But deep snow does not equal powder paradise. The pattern of weather and snowfall, as we know, has caused huge numbers of avalanches — especially due to over-enthusiastic skiers and snowboarders heading off piste. So caution at all times, please!
