The Canadian ski resort of Whistler Blackcomb has opened a snowpark specifically for children.

The resort has teamed up with Burton Snowboards on the kids-only Burton Riglet Park — basically a snowboarding playground — at the Children’s Learning Centre on Whistler Mountain.

Riglet Parks give young kids a fun introduction to the foundations of snowboarding through play, terrain-based learning and guided discovery. Children experience the feeling of sliding on snow through interactive stations with features that help them learn the basic snowboard fundamentals of balance, movement and control.

“We’re so excited to partner with Whistler Blackcomb to make snowboarding more accessible and build youth participation,” saod Jeff Boliba of Burton Snowboards. “Kids are the heart of our sport and Whistler Blackcomb shares our passion and commitment to riders. With Burton’s Riglet Parks, children are in a small group with a trained snowboard coach, using learning-specific gear and playing – it’s a game changer.”

Burton and Whistler Blackcomb will also host pop-up Riglet Parks in Whistler Village throughout the winter season. The next event runs from 1-4pm on 20 March in Mountain Square (outside of Showcase Snowboard Shop).

Whistler has also opened a brand new children’s centre in Creekside Village for kids aged three and four. The resort has also installed a covered Magic Carpet lift at the Children’s Learning Centre, to replace the handle tows.

The resort has also introduced “Kid’s Night Out”, a non-ski based evening programme for children at the base of Blackcomb Mountain in the Upper Village during peak holiday weeks.
