For the next month or so Canada’s Whistler Blackcomb will offer snow sports on its Horstman glacier. And the excellent snowfall this winter means good conditions remain up there on Blackcomb Mountain. So, the resort is taking advantage of it.

As well as the skiing and terrain park, there are lots of other snow-related and Alpine activities for visitors. New this year is a tube park, which will remain open as long as there is sufficient snow. The park has three sliding lanes but no lift – so guests have to walk up in the snow to use it. But it’s a fun activity for all the family. Snowshoeing is also being offered, with scenic, altitude walks around the Emerald chair. Roundhouse has a rental shop, but visitors are advised to make sure they have adequate clothing (winter ski wear etc). Various snow camps are available too, from freestyle to mogul training (not quite sure where they find the moguls in summer but …).

The glacier opens the Horstman and Showcase T-bars daily from 11.30 am until mid-afternoon. The Emerald chair and access gondolas are all open, as well as the Peak 2 Peak lift for sightseeing and hiking. The Roundhouse Lodge will open for on-slope BBQ’s, lunches and live music at weekends.

Whistler also has a very well-developed bike park, with mountain biking a big summer attraction for visitors to the resort. The trails are open until 8pm daily and there are plenty of events planned throughout the summer months.
