Fancy a bit of powder skiing in May? Gazing at Ski Austria’s latest photos of the Stubai glacier, we had to check the date. Sure enough, the snow is falling thick and fast today. And the Stubai has notched up 20-40cm so far – bit of a winter wonderland for those lucky enough to be able to enjoy it this weekend.

It was a similar scene across most of Austria’s open glacier resorts, snow falling as a result of a cool and unsettled weather front crossing the west and south of the country. The freezing level has fallen to 1300m in places, with strong north-westerly winds. Temperatures dipped to minus 8 degrees on the Hintertux glacier – which is open year-round and with 45km slopes still available in May.

We’ll be keeping you updated on the summer ski scene in our Snow section, as some of the other main areas reopen next month.
