Listen up shredders ... put 19 December in your diaries: it’s official World Snowboard Day.

The idea is that various resorts around the Alps, and beyond, will arrange lots of free activities dedicated to snowboarding on that day. Whether you’re thinking about learning to board, or a budding pro rider there are likely to be events to suit. Often these will involve product testing, maybe hints and tips from the pros, concerts and a lot of partying.

The event is an established focal point for the new season and has been running for several years now. Apparently, around 140 events were held at resorts last season - of those, France hosted 21 and Japan 17.

So where are some these events kicking off then?

Well, Schladming in Austria has the Blue Tomato Kids Snowboard Day, and the grand opening of the Planai terrain park for the season - on 19/20 December; including park sessions, obligatory partying Austrian style, coaching, film and photo sessions among the line-up.

How about Kitzbuhel’s Sick Trick Tour? Sounds a ball ...

There will be more information on the official site shortly, but here’s a taster from 2009 in Serbia - check out World Snowboard Day for the rest.
