The Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana has moved one step closer to building a massive indoor and outdoor action sports centre.

Should it go ahead, the Alaïa Chalet will be the first centre of its kind in French-speaking Switzerland, incorporating the existing snowpark, bike park and wakepark in Crans-Montana with an indoor facility that will include trampolines, foam pits, indoor big-airs and a skatepark.

The Alaïa Chalet project will be twinned with another centre, the Alaïa Campus, in central Valais, that will feature a surf centre with waves — a project that will be built a year after the Chalet in Crans.

The Alaïa Chalet project has now been approved by the commune of Lens, which has agreed to rent the land to the project’s developers for the next 30 years.

“We are developing sports centres which will allow beginner, amateur and professional sports enthusiasts to practice all year round, in any weather and at reasonable prices,” said Marc-Antoine Burgener, one of three co-founders for the project. Yesterday he told Where to Ski and Snowboard: “The public inquiry process will start in July and should last one month. We will be able to start the construction soon afterwards.”

The Alaïa Chalet recently partnered with California Skateparks, a world leader in skatepark construction, and hopes to offer summer and winter camps sports camps at the Alaïa Chalet starting in 2017.

The Alaïa Chalet will be build in the design of a mountain chalet, with a café-lounge for watching the action or relaxing after learning new skills on the big air.

The two centres are estimated to cost in the region of CHF18-20million, with the Alaïa Chalet due for completion next year and the Campus in 2019.
