The iconic Swiss ski resort of Zermatt is soon to start work on two new lifts.

Over the next three years, Zermatt will work to install the world’s highest 3S Gondola which will provide skiers and walkers with a second access route up to the Klein Matterhorn at 3,883m above sea level every day of the year. The new lift, when it opens for the 2018/19 ski season, will be the highest gondola in Europe.

Work will start on the gondola for 100 days this summer, and then another 100 days over the next two summer seasons before the gondola officially opens in time for the 2018/19 ski season.

The tricable’s 25 modern Pininfarina cabins have 28 seats each, transporting 2,000 people an hour up to the highest cable car station in Europe.

Work is also due to begin on a replacement for the Hörnli T-bar. The old lift is to be replaced with a six-man chair lift — called Hirli — by the start of this season, which will start lower down the mountain.
