Zermatt joins the Ikon Pass

The ski resort of Zermatt in Switzerland has joined the Ikon Pass

The ski resort of Zermatt in Switzerland has joined the Ikon Pass — a collection of iconic resorts around the world including Aspen, Revelstoke, Jackson Hole and Niseko available under one lift pass.

Holders of the Ikon Pass will get seven days’ skiing in Zermatt and the Matterhorn ski paradise network (which includes Cervinia-Valtournenche), and holders of the Ikon Base Pass will get five days.

A deal specifically tailored for British skiers is available until 30 September, offering the Ikon Pass from just $649 (about £525 in today’s exchange rate, 28 august) when purchased through a handful of ski holiday companies including Ski Safari, Ski Solutions, Ski World, Ski Independence and American Ski Classics.

It represents reasonable value if you’re planning to ski more than once this winter — a six-day ski pass for Zermatt and Cervinia-Valtournenche currently costs CHF467 when bought online (about £385 in today’s exchange rate) — though we’re presuming the ‘price from’ quoted ($649) is for a ‘young adult’ pass, not the 23+ price.

Via its website, the Ikon Pass is currently on sale for $1049 for adults aged 23 and over, $779 for teenagers and young adults aged 13-22 and $399 for children aged five to 12. It is effectively a season pass for 14 ski resorts and destinations in the US and Canada and offers seven days of skiing at resorts world-wide. The season-long access includes such resorts as Steamboat, Winter Park and Copper in Colorado, Mammoth Mountain in California and Solitude in Utah; while the seven-day access includes such ski resorts as Aspen Snowmass in Colorado, Jackson Hole in Wyoming, Deer Valley in Utah, Valle Nevado in Chile, Niseko in Japan and now Zermatt in Switzerland.

The Ikon Base is cheaper, with reduced offering, including 12 unlimited skiing destinations and up to five days at 28 other resorts (including Zermatt).
