News – 2018/19

At last, Andermatt’s Nätschen ski area has been fully linked in both directions to the Sedrun ski area. The last piece in the jigsaw, a 10-person gondola from the Oberalp pass to Schneehüenerstock along with associated new pistes and a hugely increased snowmaking capacity opened for 2018/19. The resort is now claiming a total of over 120km of pistes and 22 lifts, with around half the pistes suiting intermediates best and 30% suiting experts best. And for 2019/20 the ski area will be further expanded by a link from Sedrun to neighbouring Disentis.

Also new for 2018/19 is a big new self-service restaurant at Schneehüenerstock and a new glass igloo bar at Gurschen on Gemsstock.

A new Radisson Blu hotel is also due to open.

Summary

Little old Andermatt is virtually doubling in size with the construction of what amounts to a new village next to the original; the first of the new luxury hotels (the Chedi) and apartments opened in 2013; the Radisson Blu hotel and new Piazza Gottardo area are opening this season. And the huge terrain expansion linking Andermatt with Sedrun has been completed for this season – see News. That expansion greatly increases the attraction of the resort for intermediates and we are looking forward to trying it out and seeing the new resort developments. The appeal to experts of the tall, steep, snowy, largely off-piste separate Gemsstock mountain remains undiminished.
