Summary
Bad Hofgastein is a sizeable, spacious, quiet spa town set on flat ground in the widest part of the Gastein valley. The valley’s resorts are quite different from the Austrian norm, with less charm than usual but with slopes adding up one of Austria’s bigger and more varied areas. Many of the runs are quite testing for their classification, with some good long reds to the valley. The resort has a compact and pleasant pedestrianised centre but the slopes are reached by a funicular – a long walk or ski-bus ride away.
