Summary
Fernie has long had cult status among the residents of Calgary, and we have also had a good flow of reports from enthusiastic British visitors impressed by the adventurous skiing – it’s mostly ungroomed, and much of it is steep, with a lot of lightly wooded slopes (rare in Europe). It’s now quite a good resort for novices, too. The ones who will want to look elsewhere are keen but cautious, piste-only intermediates.
We find ourselves more strongly drawn to Fernie than the minus points listed on the left might lead you to expect. ‘Hard to explain how it gets under your skin,’ says a similarly smitten reporter. It is, Tanya, it is.
