Summary
Geilo is a small, unspoiled resort on the railway line between Oslo and Bergen. Its widely spread hotels, children’s facilities and superb cross-country trails provide the basics. The slopes are inconveniently spread across two separate mountains, one a bus ride from the resort. Like most Norwegian resorts though, it is quite different from the Alps, or indeed the Rockies. Some people find that very much to their taste. For families with young children, in particular, the drawbacks are less pronounced than for others and there’s a good family beginners’ ski area. For downhillers who prefer a simpler approach to winter holidays and can handle the limited and mainly easy slopes, it could be just the place.
