Summary
Kicking Horse was developed from a small local hill in 2000, when a long gondola was built accessing two high, powder-filled bowls – previously heli-skiing country. There were great ambitions to turn it into a major resort. But of course things have moved much more slowly than planned.
In 2011 KH was sold to Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, owner of Fernie, Kimberley and other resorts, but no great transformation has followed. The lift system and the ‘village’ at the base remain very limited. But the place is worth incorporating in a tour, or visiting for a day from Banff or Lake Louise.
