Summary
Built in the 1930s, Sun Valley was the US’s first luxury, purpose-built winter resort. It is close to the charming old mining village of Ketchum and the current owners have pumped millions of dollars into the mountain to restore it to state-of-the-art luxury – including lots of high-speed lifts. The main slopes are on Bald Mountain, accessed from luxurious base lodge complexes, with good blue bowl runs and lots of intermediate cruisers through the trees. The smaller, separate Dollar Mountain has good beginner runs. For a peaceful, relaxing time, it’s hard to beat. For skiing and boarding alone, there are better resorts.
